2 October 2018 marks Mahatma Gandhi’s 149th birthday anniversary. He was born on 2nd October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat.
Mohandas Karamchand “Mahatma” Gandhi is known for his non-violent method of the campaign for the independence of India against the British rule. He had first put in use nonviolent civil disobedience as an immigrant lawyer in South Africa, in the resident Indian community's struggle for civil rights.
After returning to India in 1915, he organized farmers, peasants, laborers to protest against excessive land-tax and discrimination. He is famous for his Dandi March in 1930 against the salt tax and his famous Quit India movement in 1942.
Many foreign world leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Ho Chi Minh, and others have cited Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings and nonviolent methods as inspiration for their own work against powerful.
