M Vijay celebrates his debut century for Essex | Essex TwitterMurali Vijay decided to spend his spare time after being dropped from the Indian team after the Lord’s Test in the England series in 2018, to hone his skills while playing for Essex in the county championship.

Vijay who bagged a pair at Lord’s as James Anderson got his number both times in the Test. For Vijay, it was a big fall from grace, as he continued his struggles from South Africa, where he was found wanting against a good pace attack.

He was sent back home in the middle of series and was replaced in the squad by an 18-year-old. This could easily mean the end of the road for the 2014 Test series hero.

M Vijay scored 56 in the first innings for Essex against Nottinghamshire and then scored a brilliant century on debut for them. He became the first debut centurion for Essex since 2009, when South African Hashim Amla achieved the feat.
