Considering the sheer skill, longevity and performances in all conditions, Dale Steyn is undoubtedly one of the greatest fast bowlers to have ever played the game.

Steyn has fighting battles with injuries but his strive over the last few years finally paid off when he returned to the Test side against Sri Lanka recently. Now in the twilight of his career, Steyn wishes to have a World Cup medal in his cabin. The 35-year-old has featured in two World Cup campaigns for South Africa, but hasn’t tasted the ultimate success yet.

In an exclusive interview with bcci.tv, Steyn said: “I think every player if you ever ask any player, they would love to win a World Cup. I think that is kind of how they get judged strangely enough. You know you can have as many Test wickets as you want but if you never won a World Cup it’s one of those things that there is a bragging right about winnings a World Cup that not many have achieved.”

“I would love to have one of those medals in my cabin at home or wherever. I would be able to go to a bar or a restaurant and can be able to say I have done that I have achieved that. It would be fantastic,” he added.

Steyn, who has claimed 421 wickets in 88 Tests and 180 scalps in 116 ODIs, also said he may be 35 but still has an enthusiasm of a 23-year-old.

“Right now I want to focus on playing. I think I have still got a lot to offer. I am only 35. Lot of people would say 35 is pretty old but I am 35 going on 23 really. I am pretty young, pretty fit. Yes I have a broken shoulder for two years that’s nothing I can do about. Anybody that falls of a motorcycle would tell you it takes a long time to comeback from those things,” Steyn remarked.

“I still want to play for a little bit longer but it would be very naïve if I say I am not going to do something. I have played cricket all my life, very much done a PHD in fast bowling and would be silly not to contribute somehow,” he explained.

In the video, Steyn also threw light on the evolution of Indian fast bowlers in the last few years. He also named his favourite India pacer among the current crop of quickies.
