WATCH: Australian batsman’s bizarre hit-wicket dismissal left cricket fans in splits

Hit-wicket is undoubtedly the most embarrassing form of dismissal in cricket.

Hit-wicket is certainly the most embarrassing form of dismissal as the batsman walks back to the pavilion for his own fault, rather than a bowler or fielder playing any role in it. No wonder, these accidental dismissals are very rare in cricket.

Recently, one such dismissal was seen during a domestic match in Australia. In a clash between NPS and Victoria, Jake Weatherald went for a front-foot drive only to edge the ball back to his pads but something bizarre happened thereafter which left the southpaw embarrassed. Weatherald could not keep a grip on his bat as it slipped out of his hand and dislodged the bails.

The disappointment was quite apparent on Weatherald’s face. He stayed at the crease in utter disbelief before taking a long walk back to the dressing room.

Here’s the video:

The comical hit-wicket also left cricket fans in splits.

In the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL), banned Australia cricketer Steve Smith also got out in the same manner. In fact, Smith was out caught off the same delivery as well.
