On the 110th birth anniversary of Sir Don Bradman, India’s batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar recalled the ‘vivid memory’ of his pleasant meet-up with the legendary Australia cricketer. Born on this day (August 27) in 1908 in Cootamundra, New South Wales, Bradman is widely deemed as the greatest batsman of all time.

Tendulkar, whose batting technique was considered as akin to Bradman, remembered how it has been 20 years since he met the batting genius at his home in Adelaide on the occasion of his 90th birthday (August 27, 1998).

“It’s been 20 years since I met the inspirational Sir #DonBradman but that special memory is so vivid. I still recall his amazing wit, warmth, and wisdom. Remembering him fondly today, on what would have been his 110th birthday,” Sachin tweeted.

Bradman is the only batsman in the history of cricket to have come close to a batting average of 100. However, he fell short by only four runs in his last Test. Still, his test average remains at 99.94.

During the meet in 1998, Tendulkar had queried Bradman what would’ve been his average in today’s cricket. To which Bradman replied 70. Sachin retorted saying why not 99? And then Bradman had amusingly stated, “it’s not bad for a 70-year-old."

Meanwhile, Google is also celebrating Bradman’s birthday with the doodle dedicated to him. In 52 Test matches, Bradman scored 6996 runs with 29 centuries and 13 half centuries. He is also known for leading an Australian team known as "The Invincibles" on a record-breaking unbeaten tour of England.
