Indian cricket fraternity hails Tajinderpal Singh's historic gold medal in 2018 Asian Games

Tajinderpal gave India their seventh gold medal in 2018 Asian Games by winning the men's shot put event with a record throw of 20.75 m.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor gave India their seventh gold medal in 2018 Asian Games by winning the men's shot put event with a record throw of 20.75m in Jakarta on Saturday (August 25). He also shattered the previous national record of 20.69m held by Om Prakash Singh.

Tajinderpal’s victory has left everyone Indian proud of his achievement. Soon after his historic feat, cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter and congratulated the shot-putter.

“A superb throw by #TajinderpalSinghToor in the Men’s Shot Put finals to clinch Gold. Congratulations!” Tendulkar’s post read.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag was also not behind to convey his congratulatory message for Tajinderpal.

Sehwag, who is known for his witty tweets, wrote: “Tajinderpal Singh Toor , kar Diya opponents ko choor. Congratulations for the Gold and a Games Record throw of 20.75m . Very proud of your accomplishment.”

Extending the laudatory message, legendary India batsman VVS Laxman tweeted: “From a silver in the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships to finishing 8th at 2018 CWG Games to now a record breaking Gold, we are all extremely proud of you Tajinderpal Singh Toor. Best wishes always.”

This was the eighth gold medal for India in men's shot put in the history of the Asian Games. Toor dominated the final from the word go but reserved his best for the very last attempt.

The 23-year-old secured the lead with an effort of 19.96 metre in his first attempt. He threw 19.15 in his second attempt but fouled his third throw. The fourth attempt saw the Indian clock yet another 19.96 metre before he simply blew away the competition with his last attempt.
