Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu reached Lahore on Friday (August 17) to attend his friend Imran Khan’s oath-taking ceremony as a Prime Minister of Pakistan. Sidhu was one of the three Indian cricketers to be invited by Imran for his swearing-in ceremony.

Imran, who secured most seats in the 2018 Pakistan general elections, had also invited his contemporaries Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. However, Gavaskar and Kapil couldn’t attend the function because of their personal commitments.

Minutes after Sidhu walked across the border at Wagah, Pakistanis warmly welcomed the Indian cricketer-turned-politician on Twitter, only to realize that it was his fake account.

“Leaving home to visit Pakistan. I’m very excited to see Imran Khan and I am very lucky that Imran Khan called me,” Sidhu’s parody account (@NavjotSingh_1) tweeted.

It is worth mentioning here that Navjot Singh Sidhu’s official Twitter handle is “@sherryontopp” since January 2017.

As soon as the tweet from Sidhu’s fake account went viral, Pakistanis thanked him for visiting their country and also promised him a great hospitality.

Addressing the media upon his arrival in Pakistan, Sidhu said he has come to Lahore to take part in the happiness of his friend.

"I have come here not as a politician but as a friend," Navjot Sidhu told reporters.
