AB de Villiers named UAE T20 League’s brand ambassador

The inaugural edition of the UAE T20 League is slated to start on December 19.

A new Twenty20 league in the United Arab Emirates has proven it means business, roping in the legendary AB de Villiers as an ambassador.

On Tuesday (August 14), the official Twitter account of UAE T20 League shared a video of AB de Villiers with a caption: “Say hello to Mr. 360! Cricket legend and #UAET20x global ambassador @ABdeVilliers17 has a message to cricket fans in the UAE and across the world. Follow us to find out more about the UAE's first international T20 league.”

In the video, AB said: “Hi guys… I wanted you all to be the first to hear about my news which is that I am going to be the ambassador for UAE T20 League.”

“You guys know that T20 has always been a format that I have loved because it is so exciting to watch. While the UAE T20 League is going to take you the whole different level and I believe this is a really exciting addition to the cricketing calendar. Most importantly, it aims to give emerging and young players the opportunity to play alongside some of the world’s best players and that’s pretty cool,” he added.

The Proteas batting maverick also confirmed that UAE T20 League will have five franchise teams with a 16-man squad that features six international stars, four emerging and junior players, three players from associate teams, and three players from the UAE national team.

De Villiers, who bid adieu from international cricket in May 2018, won't display his mastery with the willow in the UAE T20 league, instead will promote the tournament.

The inaugural edition of the UAE T20 league is slated to be played between December 19 and January 11. A total of 24 matches among 5 teams will take place in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.
