Aakash Chopra takes a swing at MS Dhoni’s Test record in England as captain

Aakash Chopra pointed out the failures of MS Dhoni as captain of Team India on tour to England in 2011 and 2014.

India had lost the Test series against England 0-4 in 2011 and 1-3 in 2014 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni | GettyEngland found themselves at the top in the second Test at Lord's against Team India, after taking a 289-run lead in the first innings by declaring at 396/7, thanks to 137* by Chris Woakes.

Some Team India fans on Twitter clamored for the return of MS Dhoni in Test cricket to save Indian team from further embarrassment at the hands of England. However, former India opener-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra took a swing at Dhoni by pointing out the shortcomings of his leadership on two tours of 2011 and 2014.

India had lost the 2011 series 0-4 against England and 2014 5-match series 1-3 despite drawing the first Test and winning the second Test at Lord’s.

Aakash Chopra stated that India had lost 0-4 whitewashes against Australia and England in 2011. He tweeted, “As much as I loved Dhoni in whites, the fact is that India suffered some of its worst overseas defeats under him. 0-4 in England and Australia in 2011.

When someone pointed out that MS Dhoni was the second highest run-getter in the 2014 series against England in England, Chopra replied, “Also, India lost the series 1-4. We need to stop looking at individuals and past records if we were to move ahead...#ENGvIND

He further said, “Back then we were saying that why Dhoni didn’t try new faces even after suffering defeat after defeat. Almost identical XI irrespective of the poor results. There are always two sides of the story.

Aakash Chopra concluded by tweeting, “No. They aren’t. Many areas to improve upon. But same was the case with Dhoni.
