Former India cricketer Hemang Badani raised his voice against racial discrimination on Tuesday (August 7). Taking to Twitter, Badani revealed that he has been called 'Setu' all his life.
Apparently, 'Setu' is a Tamil slang which is used to refer to the Marwaris or North Indian people residing around Chennai. Badani, who belongs from Tamil Nadu, made it clear through his tweet that he finds the term very disrespectful.
“Have been called "Setu" all my life and I find it very racist.i dont remember calling anyone by their caste or religion. So why me. I find it extremely disrespectful. My parents have given me a beautiful name and it's only fair that I be called by that name and nothing else,” Hemang Badani tweeted.

About a year ago, Badani's former Tamil Nadu teammate and Indian opener Abhinav Mukund had urged people to not hurl abuses just because someone's skin colour is not fair.

Hemang Badani, who made his international debut in 2000, represented India in 4 Tests and 40 ODIs over the course of his four-year long career. Badani, however, was a quality domestic player. He finished with 6758 first-class runs with 14 hundreds across 121 matches.
