WATCH: Smriti Mandhana blasts 48 off 20 balls on her KSL debut for Western Storm

Mandhana helped Western Storm chased down Diamonds’ target of 163 with 27 balls to spare.

The much-awaited Kia Super League (KSL) finally kicked-off on Sunday (July 22). Three matches were played in the opening day with Surrey Stars and Southern Vipers clashing in the first one, Western Storm and Yorkshire Diamonds locking horns in the second and Lancashire Thunder facing Loughborough Lightning in the third game.

India’s star opening batswoman Smriti Mandhana made her debut in KSL for the defending champions Western Storm. She played a breathtaking innings of 48 runs in just 20 balls as the Storm chased down Diamonds’ target of 163 with seven wickets in hand and 27 balls to spare.

Mandhana’s knock was laced with 3 elegant boundaries 5 effortless sixes. After losing her opening partner Rachel Priest (0) in the very first delivery, the left-handed Smriti forged a 80-run stand for the second wicket with Heather Knight, who scored a blistering 97 off 62 balls (13 fours and 5 sixes).

As far as the outcome of other matches are concerned – Southern Vipers beat Surrey Stars by seven wickets while Loughborough Lightning defeated Lancashire Thunder by six wickets.
