India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is a huge soccer aficionado and is following the ongoing FIFA World Cup passionately. He often tweets live during the matches. On Friday (July 6), Ashwin picked the side to beat in FIFA World Cup 2018.
As France outclassed Uruguay 2-0 to enter the semi-finals of this year’s FIFA World Cup, Ashwin took to Twitter and wrote: “Teams will have to do really well to keep France away from winning this World Cup. #FrancevsUruguay #FIFAWC2018”.
Raphael Varane and Antoinne Griezmann scored two goals to help France reach the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time since 2006.
A terrible error by Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera in the 61st minute handed France a 2-0 lead in the second half of the quarter-final clash. Griezmann hit a powerful shot headed straight to Muslera but he failed to collect it cleanly and the ball ended up at the back of the net. Earlier, Varane had scored with a clinical header in the 40th minute to give France a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.
It is France’s sixth appearance in the semi-final of the showpiece event. France will face neighbours Belgium in the semi-finals in St Petersburg on Tuesday (July 10).
