Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj showed her outburst on Twitter after the news of an eight-year-old getting raped in Madhya Pradesh's Mandasaur went viral.

Mithali was angry, hurt and sad after the incident. She asked sharp questions in her tweet. "It pains me to see this. Everyday a child, a girl, a woman is brutally raped. Is this why we are born? Is this not the reason for female foeticide? Is this the World we want to bring our daughters to? Are these the men we want our sons to become? Is this improving men:women ratio? (sic)," she tweeted.

Father of the victim has demanded death sentence for the accused, suggesting that capital punishment was the only option for their heinous crime.

The girl was found brutalized around 700 meters from her school and somehow managed to survive; but is still battling for her life.

Recently, at UN Women India’s anthem 'Mujhe Haq Hai' launch, Raj had spoken about the struggle women have to do in sports. “It hasn’t been an easy experience. Cricket has always been a male-dominated sport, but things have changed only recently after the World Cup. I’ve started seeing many girls playing cricket now.

"My message to women is that it’s important to be self-reliant and financially independent, as that gives you the confidence to take on the world. Once a woman is confident, she is capable of emotionally supporting herself. Our parents have been revolutionists and have helped us in shaping our identities. Besides, everybody deserves to be successful and have a shot at fame," she said.
