"I hope we can make them proud," says Ranveer Singh who will portray Kapil Dev in movie '83'

On June 25, 2018, India completed 35 years of their famous1983 World Cup win at Lord's against West Indies. Indian cricket team had lifted the World Cup title for the first time and they had to wait for another 28 years to win it again.

Social media was filled with memorable moments of the World Cup 1983 and from cricket fraternity to Bollywood stars, all remembered the iconic day in Indian sports history.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh too tweeted about the movie. "35 years ago...They made India proud ???????? 35 years on...I hope we can make Them proud ???????? @kabirkhankk #83 ????????," he wrote.

Interestingly, Ranveer is working on a movie based on the World Cup 1983 win. The film is named '83' and directed by Kabir Khan. This is the reason he tagged the directer and hashtag 83 at the end of his tweet.

The movie will release on 5th April 2019. Ranveer will play former Indian captain Kapil Dev in the film. After finalized as the lead of the movie Ranveer said that it won't be easy to make the 1983 squad. "1983 ki team handle karna wasn't easy, koshish karlo mushkil se milenge aise characters poori India mein," he said in an interview to Pinkvilla.
