Cricket fraternity on Twitter remembers India's iconic 1983 World Cup victory

June 25, 1983, is one the unforgettable days of Indian cricket. The day when India started to take notice of ODI cricket.

Things changed in India after that day. We have heard from many Indian cricket greats how the World Cup 1983 win inspired them to play cricket. The ultimate underdogs in the competition, team India defeated two times World Cup winners West Indies in the final. Not only that, India had defeated West Indies in their first match of the tournament as well, giving them confidence of doing well.

Kapil Dev and team were able to defend a target of 183 against mighty Windies. India restrcited West Indies from making a hattrick of World Cup wins by beating them by 43 runs and bowling them out for 140. Kapil and co picked up wickets in a cluster to ensure they create history on this day. 

The iconic picture of the then Indian skipper Kapil lifting trophy at the Mecca of cricket, Lord's, can't be erased from any Indian cricket fan's memory.

After the 35 years of the 1983 Cricket World Cup win, Indian cricketers took to Twitter to celebrate this day. They shared their posts remembering the great win.
