Germany beat Sweden 2-1 in the final seconds of stoppage time in the ongoing FIFA World Cup thanks to an incredible free-kick goal from Toni Kroos. The outcome takes Germany level on points with Sweden, with a match against South Korea still to come. Mexico lead the group.

Kroos became the hero of the match when he scored off a designed play with just about 30 seconds to play. It came after a foul just to the left of the Sweden box. Kroos stepped to the ball and tapped it to Marco Reus, who set it for Kroos to take aim on goal. He scored from outside the penalty area to rescue Germany from the brink of an unthinkable early World Cup exit.

Germany's fans erupted into loud cheers when Kroos saved his team from a draw. Fans were going bonkers in the stadium while jumping up and down.

India batsman Rohit Sharma, who is a huge soccer aficionado, also couldn’t stop marvelling at Kroos’ sheer brilliance.

Taking to Twitter, Rohit wrote: “Great composure under pressure by the Deutschland. Brave finish by @ToniKroos #Madridista”.

Sharma along with his India teammates landed in Ireland on Saturday as the Men in Blue are scheduled to play a two-match T20I series against the Irish team on June 27 and 29. Following the Ireland T20Is, India’s tour of England will kick off from July 3.
