"I wasn't born in wrong era, MS Dhoni performed better than me," says Parthiv Patel

Parthiv Patel made his debut for Indian cricket team in 2002; two years before MS Dhoni.

The ever-young looking Parthiv Patel wanted to be like Adam Gilchrist when he started his cricketing career. Picked for the Indian team in 2002, Parthiv revealed that in India's tour to Australia in 2004 he had asked Gilchrist for a signed jersey. Parthiv said the sign read, "Big future awaits". "I've still kept that framed in my house," the wicket-keeper added, appearing on the show 'Breakfast with Champions'.

The Gujarat born cricketer also talked about the incident from World Cup 2003 when he asked Anil Kumble to tell Gilchrist for a photo with him. Parthiv was too shy to ask himself. After India got bowled out on just 120 in that match, he couldn't go and talk to the legend. But as Kumble had already informed the former Aussie wicket-keeper about Parthiv, he remembered it and himself came to talk with Parthiv.

When host Gaurav Kapur asked how for him and Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni took away the place in the Indian team, Parthiv answered in a different way. Instead of continuing the same old 'born in the wrong era' monotonous words, he said that it is them who didn't perform which made way for Dhoni.

The 33-year-old said, "He (Dhoni) is a legend." Parthiv added, "There's one thing many people tell me that You're born in the wrong era. But I feel that we started playing before him. So if we didn't perform poorly he wouldn't have played in the first place. So instead of thinking that, I think it's us who didn't perform to our potential. That's why MS came."

He continued, "So to blame someone else that I was born in the wrong era and all that is to comfort you, but deep down you know that you have not performed that's why."
