Harbhajan Singh reacts to news of Sikhs moving from Peshawar amidst atrocities committed on them

Harbhajan Singh, one of the greatest off-spinners the game has ever seen, is also a proud Sikh. Recently, Harbhajan gave an apt reply to a person who was trying to school him on ways of Sikhism.

Now, he has reacted to an ANI news piece about the atrocities faced by Sikhs in Peshawar region of Pakistan. The news published on June 13 on ANI website talks about how the minority Sikh community of Peshawar, Pakistan is moving to different parts of the country after facing repeated attacks by Islamic fundamentalists.

More than sixty percent of Peshawar's 30,000 Sikhs have left for other parts of Pakistan or migrated to India after being forced to live under a constant threat. It also featured the death of a grocery shop owner Charanjeet Singh, who was also a peace activist and was gunned down.

A member of Pakistan Sikh council (PCS) said that their community was being wiped out as they "looked different." "Whether it is targeted killings of community leaders or sale of gurudwara lands until you accept the problem exist, how can you find a solution?" questioned TV anchor Taranjeet Singh.

As per the local media, the Pakistani government has not been acknowledging that the Sikh community requires its support and protection.

Harbhajan Singh was moved by the plight of Sikhs in neighboring Pakistan and he tweeted that, “It’s so sad to know such things r still happening...Insaniyat khatam ho gayi hai”. Harbhajan also shared the ANI article on the Sikhs in Peshawar in his tweet.  

After this tweet, Harbhajan Singh faced a backlash from Pakistani Twitter users and he then posted the following tweet to clear his views.
