Veteran India opener Gautam Gambhir is fairly vocal on social media concerning the national issues. One who immensely respects the army, Gambhir is a patriotic individual who leaves no stone unturned to make a difference to the society.

On Tuesday (June 12), the southpaw posted a heartfelt message on micro-blogging site Twitter after Kargil martyr’s son joined his father’s battalion.

Hitesh Kumar, who was just six years old when his father, a Lance Naik in the 2nd Battalion of Rajputana Rifles, was killed on June 12, 1999. Almost 19 years later, the son has been commissioned as a lieutenant in the Indian Army after passing out from the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

Expressing his sentiments on the news, Gambhir wrote: “Kargil martyr’s son joins dad’s battalion… Kargil martyr’s son joins dad’s battalion…वो आँधी थी जो सिंधूर उड़ा कर ले गयी, कह दो उन हवाओं से आज उसी सिंधूर से एक लाल जन्मा है।

Gambhir’s love for the Indian armed forces is not constrained to his tweets alone. Last year, the left-hander had taken the lifetime academic responsibility of a slain Jammu and Kashmir police officer’s daughter. Zohra – the daughter of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Abdul Rasheed, who was martyred in August 2017, had expressed her desire to become a doctor and Gautam had ensured her to support in every possible way.

Moreover, Gambhir's goodwill gesture for the society often becomes the talk of the town as he supports various causes. The Community Kitchen initiative started by Gautam Gambhir Foundation (GGF) is one such example of his kind-hearted nature.
