Every year, June 5 is observed as World Environment Day to raise awareness about environmental issues. The theme for this year’s Environment Day is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ with focus on single-use or disposable plastic.
The theme invites everyone to make changes in their everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife and their own health. While plastic has many valuable uses, it has severe environmental consequences.
Considering the significance of the day, India’s current and former cricketers such as Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, among others shared some insightful messages via micro-blogging site Twitter.
Here are the tweets:
The road to a healthier environment is something we all have to contribute into making ????. Let's stop utilizing single-use plastic products and pledge to change our habits. Let's all #BeatPlasticPollution this #WorldEnvironmentDay

Let’s not make ‘looking after our environment’ an event which comes few times a year. Let’s make it a part of our daily routine. Something we pass on to the next generation #ThereIsNoPlanetB #WorldEnvironmentDay

I think instead of #WorldEnvironmentDay let’s rename it as #WorldSurvivalDay. May be then we’ll realise we are on the brink of our carelessness & greed-infused disasters. Just look at water crisis in Shimla.

#WorldEnvironmentDay pic.twitter.com/Cj5pMLisgc

Every World Environment Day has a different global host country, where the official celebrations take place. India is the host to this year’s World Environment Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address an event marking the World Environment Day today.
