Indian football team defeated Kenya in the second Intercontinental Cup match by 3-0 on Monday (June 4) night. The victory was special for Sunil Chhetri and company as they got huge support from the Mumbai crowd despite a heavy downpour.
The match also marked Chhetri’s 100th international affair and he fittingly recorded his 61st international goal. India’s football captain is now third on the list of highest active goal scorers, surpassed only by Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina's Lionel Messi.
Chhetri controversially earned a penalty and broke the deadlock in the 68th minute while Jeje Lalpekhlua doubled India’s lead with his pile driver in the 71st minute. Chhetri ended the match by scoring in the stoppage time (90+1) off a Balwant Singh assist as the capacity crowd at the Mumbai Football Arena went berserk.
