Sunrisers Hyderabad mentor VVS Laxman got to interview Mumbai Indians mentor Sachin Tendulkar on Tendulkar’s 45th birthday at the Wankhede Stadium after the MI-SRH match.

After wishing the master blaster on his birthday, Laxman and Tendulkar recalled the memories of the immortal 1998 Sharjah ‘desert storm’ match.  "I was fortunate that I was at the non-strikers end," Laxman said during the video chat with Tendulkar aired on iplt20.com.

Sachin recalled that he was scolded by his elder brother at home after the tournament because Sachin had shouted at VVS Laxman during the match in a pressure situation.

Sachin said, “I got shouted at when I got back home. My brother shouted at me for shouting at you. He said what were you doing in the middle, he is your team-mate, he is supporting you and you are shouting at him. I said I am sorry. I will never do that again."

"I can assure you that his knock (143) was one of the best I have seen," Laxman said.

India required over 270 runs to win the last league match against Australia and 237 odd runs to qualify for the finals, beating New Zealand on net run-rate. Tendulkar's innings that day was called the 'Desert Storm' after the play was suspended for around 25 minutes because of a dust storm that swept through the venue.

Tendulkar’s 143 ensured that India got the qualification for the finals. Sachin then hit 134 in the finals against Australia two days later, on his birthday in 1998.

In the video interview, Tendulkar also termed Wankhede Stadium as a 'special venue'.

"This is special venue for me. This is where it all started for me. I made my first-class debut here. I won the 2011 World Cup here. And, I played my retirement match here as well. Wankhede has always been a special venue for me," Tendulkar said.
