Age is just a number they say. Well, the former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has proved it in the ongoing season of Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The 37-year-old (as claimed by his birth certificate) took an unthinkable catch at this age and left the fans with disbelief on their face.

It was a game between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators on Friday. Karachi were defending a target of 150 and the Gladiators were already wobbling in their chase. Their scorecard read 70/5 in 12.2 overs before Afridi put everyone in awe.

In the 13th over of Quetta’s innings, Umar Amin, looking set on a 30-ball 31 in the chase, hit Mohammad Irfan over long on. More than half of the spectators had already counted it as a six. However, a rabid effort from Afridi, who is turning 38 next week, was enough to shake the opposition.

He plucked the ball and threw it back inside the boundary before going over the ball. Then the veteran quickly managed to get himself in and take the stunning catch before finishing it with his iconic pose.

Not only fans and opponent, Afridi himself admitted that he was surprised with the effort.

“These days, I try to hide myself on the field but Babar (Azam) told me to field in the deep. It worked well. Fielding is an art, you have to enjoy it. If you don't, you will be found out. You have to be ready all the time,” he said.
