India U-19 are off to a winning start in the ICC U19 World Cup 2018 as they defeated Australia U-19 in their opening match. India win by 100 runs bundling out the Aussies at 228, defending a big total of 328/7.

The pacers did well to not give Australia any momentum in the game. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti took three wickets each which dismantled the Aussie batting line up. Spinners Abhishek Sharma and Anukul Roy scalped a victim each.

It was a match worth forgetting for the Australians. Their star of the match was Jack Edwards who top scored with 73 runs and picked up four wickets for 65 runs.

Earlier in the match, Indian captain Prithvi Shaw won the toss and decided to bat first. Shaw missed out a ton by 6 runs but he and Manjot Kalra put up a huge partnership of 180 runs.

Shaw was dismissed on 94 when he edged the ball to the keeper, while Kalra was caught at mid-wicket and was dismissed at 86.

Their opening stand left Robin Uthappa and Shikhar Dhawan's opening wicket record of 174 runs in U-19 World Cup for India behind.

Former India cricketers reacted to this outstanding performance by the India junior team.
