Indian speedster Mohammed Shami got criticized for his 'un-Islamic' tweet on New Year 2018.
The 27-year-old pacer was criticized posting a picture of Hindu deity Shiva's symbol, the Shiv-Ling, on Twitter to wish everyone on New Year’s day.
Mohammed Shami conveyed his New Year greetings to his followers and wrote, “As the new year renews all the happiness and good tidings, hope the joyful spirit keeps glowing in your heart forever! Happy New Year!”2018 to you and family’s."
Many of the cricketer's followers are Muslims and they slammed Shami for wishing New Year using a Hindu deity's symbol. There was even lots of hate speech on his Twitter feed and when things got out of hand, Shami had to delete the tweet.
Earlier too, he faced the ire of his followers, when he posted pictures of his daughter’s birthday celebrations and before that for posting pictures of his wife in western outfits. Many were of the opinion then that Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan committed a ‘sin’ by wearing a western dress.
Here is how a section of Twitter reacted:
