Watch: When Shashi Kapoor played cricket in a charity match

Shashi Kapoor, the famous actor died at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai at age 79 after a period of hospitalization. Shashi Kapoor started his tryst with acting at the age of four, with plays directed and produced by his father Prithviraj Kapoor.

He had undergone a bypass surgery in 2014. He is survived by three children – Kunal, Sanjana and Karan Kapoor.

A video of the veteran actor playing cricket is circulating on the social media after his demise. 

Earlier this year, Bollywood actor Salman Khan had shared the video on his Twitter account from a cricket match between the prominent Bollywood actors of the 1960s including Shashi Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and others. It was a match between Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar’s team. The tournament’s name was Star Cricket Carnival 1962.

The video, remix of IPL theme and featuring A-list players was a charity match was held at Mumbai's Shivaji Park in 1962 or thereabouts. Funds were being raised for drought-struck Maharashtra. However, it could also have been hosted by the Maharaja of Patiala in 1956. The packed stands watched Team Dilip Kumar play Team Raj Kapoor.

Players included Shashi Kapoor, Mehmood, Joy Mukherjee, I S Johar, Shubha Khote and many other stars of the era. Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor were great friends and co-starred in films like 1949's Andaz.
