German-South Africa influencer LizLaz reacted to the viral incident of Virat Kohli "liking" her picture on Instagram, stating that she actually felt sorry for the cricketer seeing him get trolled, which eventually led to him unliking the post.
After fans noticed the 'like', screenshots began circulating across the internet, leading to a wave of "algorithm" memes.
The "algorithm" reference stems from a May 2025 incident where Kohli mistakenly liked a photo of Indian influencer Avneet Kaur. Following the backlash, he issued a clarification on Instagram Stories, stating that the "like" happened while he was "clearing his feed" and was a technical glitch with no intent behind it.
After Kohli’s recent social media activity went viral, the "algorithm" jokes resurfaced again. Amid the trolling, LizLaz sympathized with the batting stalwart.
“No, I felt a bit sorry for him actually! I was so happy that he liked it, but then him unliking it, I felt a bit bad for him because I don't even know how it became such a big story. How did people notice, how did they make it news that was probably not his intention behind it, but still I am grateful for it and I appreciate the support from him,” she said while speaking to Hindustan Times.
LizLaz said she didn't realize when Kohli liked her picture and got to know about it when the news went viral on social media platforms.
“It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news. I don’t even know when he liked the picture, I learnt through the news. So many people found the articles done on me on many different platforms and sent them to me in my DMs. I got so many messages today, people were super excited about it," she added.
After this viral controversy, an old vide of LizLaz supporting RCB emerged. The influencer confirmed her support for the current IPL champions and admiration for Kohli.
“It was obviously the IPL last year, so I started watching with my Bangalorean friends. It was contagious. I was also becoming a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan. And obviously, if you support RCB, Virat Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He's just so good. So I was happy about him liking the picture,” LizLaz remarked.
