Vidarbha lifted their maiden Ranji Trophy title after they defeated Delhi in the finals yesterday. They defeated Delhi by 9 wickets in a dominating performance.

Vidarbha made history at the Holkar Stadium here in becoming another first-time champions, after Gujarat's Ranji win last year.

The win came thanks to the performances of Rajneesh Gurbani, whose 6 wicket haul contained a hat-trick, Akshay Wadkar's maiden century and fifites from Sarwate and Neral.

Even veteran Wasim Jaffer pitched in with a fifty in the first innings and then hit four fours in an over to win the match for Vidarbha. This was a big victory for the Vidarbha captain Faiz Fazal and coach Chandrakant Pandit as they were the underdogs in the tournament.

Gautam Gambhir was the captain when Delhi last won the Ranji title

Former Delhi captain Gautam Gambhir was impressed with Vidarbha's consistency throughout the tournament and congratulated the first time champions on Twitter.

Gambhir wrote, "Well done Vidarbha on winning the Ranji Trophy. I can tell you from experience that there will be fewer better days than this one. Congrats @faizfazal U guys deserve it all as u had consistency in ur corner @BCCI @BCCIdomestic @faizfazal."

Gautam Gambhir also acknowledged the effort put in by his Delhi teammates. He wrote,"Proud of the way my entire group, Delhi played the season. No shame in being second to a better team in Vidarbha. Let’s learn from the past n plan for the future but be proud of ur self...very proud @BCCI @BCCIdomestic"
