Vidarbha created history yesterday by winning their maiden Ranji Title. Vidarbha defeated Delhi in the finals by 9 wickets to earn an outright victory over the seven time champions in Holkar Stadium in Indore.
Delhi was bowled out for 295 runs thanks to a 6 wicket haul from Rajneesh Gurbani, which included a hat-trick. Dhruv Shorey scored a valiant century for Delhi in the first innings. Vidarbha came from behind to gain a lead of over 250 runs. That became possible due to Akshay Wadkar scored a brilliant 133 and got support from Aditya Sarwate who made 79 and Siddhesh Neral who made 74, taking Vidarbha to 547.
Delhi had a tough task to overhaul the lead of over 250 and they barely managed to do so with Dhruv Shorey making 62 and Nitish Rana who made 64. Wakhare took 4/95. Vidarbha registered their first Ranji win by reaching the target of 29 runs losing the wicket of Fazal.
Vidarbha’s win was surprising to many cricket experts and everyone was happy for what has been a wonderful journey for the team.
