Former Aussie paceman reveals the reason behind Maxwell non-inclusion

Mitchell Marsh will go back to Australia after having shoulder issues.

Australian selectors shocked the cricketing community by selecting Marcus Stoinis to replace injured Mitchell Starc in the Australian squad for the on-going Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Marcus Stoinis averages just 15 with bat this season for Victoria and this raised lots of eyebrows. Former Australian fast bowler Rodney Hogg, who played 38 Test matches for Australia, said, "He's averaging about 15 for Victoria and they're flying him over as a reserve to Marsh. He could play in a Test match and he's averaging 15 for Victoria. If I was chairman of selectors I would've dropped him for the last two games with Victoria, and now he's in the Australian set-up. You're kidding me."

He feels that Usman Khawaja will get the nod to play in the third Test in Ranchi ahead of Stoinis. He also revealed a shocking reason behind the non-inclusion of spinning all-rounder Glen Maxwell. Hogg said, "They won't go Maxwell, they'll go Khawaja and he'll bat at six. Khawaja will come in at six, but that's not the right spot for him. Maxwell should come in there, but he won't because the captain doesn't like him."

"We've now got so much confidence in (Steve) O'Keefe and (Nathan) Lyon that we'll probably go into the next Test match without that fifth bowler," Hogg said on the point of adding a fifth bowling option in the playing XI.

However, coach Darren Lehmann was non-committal on selection issues and gave no hints as to who will replace Mitchell Marsh in the playing XI for the third Test in Ranchi.
