IPL 2019: Not Ganguly, but Manjrekar credits Ponting for Dhawan's success; Twitter upset

Dhawan has played some game changing knocks for Delhi Capitals this season.

Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Shikhar Dhawan getting back into the groove is good news for the franchise. The southpaw scored 56 against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to stitch a partnership of 92-run with skipper Shreyas Iyer.

The partnership laid the foundation of their sixth win in the group stage. They are now very close to making it into the playoffs, standing at number 3 position with four more matches to go.

Cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar feels it's Ricky Ponting who has made Dhawan a good batsman. "Needed a Ricky Ponting to shake Shikhar out of his comfort zone. Far too many coaches pander to the wishes of star players. Dhawan is a better T20 batsman now thanks to Ricky," Manjrekar tweeted.

Twitter wasn't convinced with what Manjrekar said. He was lashed out by the Twitterati. Some users were irked by Manjrekar not giving credit to Sourav Ganguly.

Dhawan had mentioned both Ganguly and Ponting while thanking them for his success. "The support of coaches Ponting and Ganguly has been very good. Their experience as captains helped the team. Also, the belief they instilled in players made the difference," Dhawan had said after the win against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 14.
