India defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final ODI to win the series 2-1.

MS Dhoni's DRS fails for once | Twitter

India was the last team to embrace Decision Review System or (DRS) and MS Dhoni was the captain when DRS were first implemented in Test cricket.

Though MS Dhoni has been a staunch criticizer of the DRS, he has recently gained a knack of been eerily correct with his DRS calls. He has proven to be right so many times, that captain Virat Kohli has left the decision of taking the DRS in the hands of MS Dhoni and he has seldom failed his captain.

Dhoni’s ability to get the DRS calls correct has earned DRS a nickname of ‘Dhoni Review System’.

However, in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka in Vizag, the ‘Dhoni Review System’ failed, as MS Dhoni let one DRS call that he should have taken, go.

In the 14th over, Kuldeep trapped Sri Lankan opener Sadeera in front of the stumps and immediately went up in appeal. The umpire gave the decision of not out. Kuldeep was sure that the batsman was out and asked Rohit to take the DRS. However after a discussion with MS Dhoni; Rohit Sharma opted not to go for the DRS call.

During the break, the replays were played on the screens and it showed that the ball would have gone onto hit the stumps and if Dhoni and Team India would have taken the DRS call, the umpire would have to overturn his decision and Sadeera would have been on his way to the pavilion.
