Three times IPL champions Chennai Super Kings had yet another brilliant season of Indian Premier League as they finished as runners-up after losing to Mumbai Indians by just 1 run in the final.
Chennai Super Kings was defending champions and they started their IPL 2019 campaign with a big win over Royal Challengers Bangalore at home ground Chennai. Chennai continued to play good cricket throughout the season and with nine wins from fourteen matches they finished at the second position in the points table. And then lost to Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1 but beat Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier 2 to reach to the final but once again lost to Mumbai Indians and failed to defend their title.
Chennai Super Kings' backbone was MS Dhoni who was excellent throughout the season with bat as well as with his captaincy. Bowlers Deepak Chahar and Imran Tahir too were outstanding and were among top three leading wicket-takers.
Opener Shane Watson had a poor season but he came good in playoffs and scored the fifties in Qualifier 2 and final. Faf du Plessis too had a good season but Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu disappointed most as both the batsmen couldn't step up when it mattered most. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo too couldn't make an impact with bat and ball.
