5 Indian players whose 2019 World Cup dream might be over

These five players have lost their given chances in ODIs and might not make it to the 2019 World Cup.

RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN

R Ashwin | GettyR Ashwin last played in ODIs for India way back in June of 2017. The doors closed on him and Ravindra Jadeja after their poor showing in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 in England and with the rise of the wrist-spinning duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal in the limited overs, it looks like Ashwin won’t make it to the 2019 World Cup squad.

His spin partner Ravindra Jadeja made a triumphant comeback into the team after his performance in the Asia Cup 2018. Ashwin, however, has been relegated to being a Test specialist, as he couldn’t have much success in the IPL 2018 as well, despite leading the KXIP franchise.

The rise of wrist spinners all over the world has marginalized finger spinners, but Ashwin’s loss of form has also hurt him badly. His England Test series was a preview of how well he might do in the ODIs as well, and by the looks of it, he seems to not be in the selectors’ scheme of things when ICC World Cup 2019 is concerned.
