India A and England Lions clashed in the finals of the tri-series at the Kia Oval, London. India A has been in very good form coming into this final and England Lions had the advantage of playing on home turf.

India A captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first. England Lions’ innings was the story of just two batsmen playing their hearts out for their team. Sam Hain scored a brilliant 108 in 122 balls with 8 fours and one six and Liam Livingstone stroked an equally impressive 83 off 82 balls with 5 sixes and 4 fours. The duo added 152 runs in 25 overs for the third wicket and put England on course to a formidable final score.

The next two digit scores were 17 by Steven Mullaney and 12 by Nick Gubbins; as Indian bowlers took Lions’ batting apart. Kohler-Cadmore (5) and Gubbins (12), who made a century against India A previously, were removed early and after the Hain – Livingstone partnership; Lions’ batting shattered against Indian bowling. England Lions could only muster up 264/9 in 50 overs.

Khaleel Ahmed was the pick of bowlers with 3/48 and Deepak Chahar celebrated his Team India call-up by picking 3/58. Shardul Thakur picked 2/42 and Krunal Pandya picked 1/65.

India A reply was wonderful with Prithvi Shaw making a quick 15, Agarwal scoring 40 and Gill scoring 20, with Dawson picking Agarwal and Gill. Iyer and Vihari joined forces with India A on 83/3. Iyer scored 44 in 44 balls to take the score to 150 along with Hanuma Vihari, who made 37 in 58 balls.

However, it was Rishabh Pant (64* in 62 balls with 8 fours and 1 six) who took the initiative and scored a wonderful half-century, which stabilized the chase. It was a nice way to celebrate his inclusion in the India A team for the four-day matches. Krunal Pandya (34* in 37 balls) gave him good support in the end and took India to a brilliant win.

Liam Dawson was the pick of the England Lions bowlers with 2/37 in 9 overs.

It was a prolific win for the India A team in the tri-series under the leadership of Shreyad Iyer and it resulted in Deepak Chahar and Krunal Pandya get into the Indian senior team.
