Women’s Asia Cup T20: India thrash hosts Malaysia by 142 runs; bowl them out for 27

Indian women’s team started their Asia Cup T20 campaign in style by thrashing hosts Malaysia in their first match of the tournament.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first. Though the team lost Smriti Mandhana for just 2 runs bowled by Hamizah Hashim; and Pooja Vastrakar for 16 runs; Mithali Raj continued her good run in the T20 matches from South Africa tour, by scoring a brilliant 97* off 69 runs with 12 fours and 1 six.

Skipper Harmanpreet score 32* in 23 balls with 4 fours and Deepti scored 18*, to take India to 169/3 in 20 overs.

In reply, Malaysia failed to respond to the challenge as they lost half their side within the power play. No player in the team reached double figures. The highest score was 5 runs by captain Winifred Duraisingam.

Pooja Vastrakar picked 3/6, Anuja Patil picked 2/9, Poonam Yadav picked 2 wickets without giving a single run and Shikha Pandey picked a wicket, as Malaysia was bundled out for 27 runs in the 14th over and India won the match by 142 runs.

Mithali Raj was named the player of the match for her wonderful innings of 97*.
