Smriti Mandhana’s 86 helps India women triumph England Women in a close encounter

Sophie Ecclestone was the best bowler for England, claiming four wickets.

India Women bowling department stopped Eng Women for 207

India Women and England women clashed in the first WODI of the three match series at Nagpur.

England captain Anya Shrubsole won the toss and elected to bat first. Fran Wilson hit 45 off 73 balls, Tammy Beaumont hit 37 and Danielle Hazell hit 33 down the batting order to help England women reach 207 in 49.3 overs.

Poonam Yadav was the best bowler for India women, as she picked 4/30 and Ekta Bisht picked 3/49, along with Deepti Sharma, who took 2/25; as India women stopped England team to a subpar total.

India Women lost Devika Vaidya for 15 and captain Mithali Raj for a duck. Smriti Mandhana hit 86 off 109 balls with 4 sixes and 5 fours. She got support from Harmanpreet Kaur (21), Deepti Sharma (24). However, Sophie Ecclestone’s 4/37 and Georgia Elwiss’s 2/14 rocked the Indian middle order.

In the end, it was Ekta Bisht’s 12* and Poonam Yadav’s 7*, which took India to the win with one wicket in hand on the first ball of the last over.
