Indian domestic cricket’s premier One-Day competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 which went underway on 5th February, has now reached its quarterfinals stages. On 21st February, Mumbai faced Maharashtra and Hyderabad faced Karnataka in the first two QF matches.
Here is the summary of quarter-final matches on 21st February:
MUMBAI V MAHARASHTRA
Mumbai batted first and scored 222/9 in 50 overs. Suryakumar Yadav top scored with 69 in 88 balls with 7 fours. Shreyas Iyer (35), Dhawal Kulkarni (23) and SZ Mulani (22) were the other main contributors to Mumbai’s total. Maharashtra displayed a disciplined bowling effort with PC Dadhe picked 3/57 and PT Kote picking 2/34.
Shrikant Mundhe shouldered the responsibility of chasing the total down with a 95 ball 70 with 9 fours and 1 six. Captain Rahul Tripathi made 49 with 4 fours and 1 six; while Ankeet Bawane (37*) and NS Shaikh (51* off 40 balls with 5 fours) took Maharashtra to the win with 7 wickets in hand.
MUM 222/9 lost to MAH 224/3 by 7 wkts
HYDERABAD V KARNATAKA
Karnataka batted first against Hyderabad and took full advantage by scoring a massive 347/8. Mayank Agarwal scored 140 off 111 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes. He was aided by R Samarth who made 125 in 124 balls with 13 fours. Hyderabad bowlers went for runs barring Mohd Siraj who picked 5/59 and Ravi Kiran who picked 2/61 in their respective 10 overs.
Hyderabad batsmen had a tough task in front of them and only Ravi Teja (53 with 9 fours) and Ambati Rayudu (64 with 6 fours and 2 sixes) looked like giving a fight to Karnataka bowlers. B Sandeep also contributed 42 runs. But Shreyas Gopal’s 5/31 and Stuart Binny’s 3/45 proved to be too much for Hyderabad batsmen and they collapsed to 244 all out. Karnataka won the match by 103 runs.
