South Africa women defeat India women in the last WODI thanks to Mignon du Preez’s 90*

South Africa saved some pride thanks to Mignon du Preez’s wonderful innings, as they won the last WODI at Kimberly by 7 wickets.

India batted first and suffered an early casualty as the star of previous two matches; Smriti Mandhana was dismissed on her first ball for a duck by Shabnim Ismail and then Mithali Raj was dismissed by Khaka for 4. But Deepti Sharma hit 79 in 112 balls with 8 fours. Veda Krishnamurthy also hit 56 in 64 balls with 8 fours, while Harmanpreet Kaur hit 25 off 35 balls with 4 fours.

India ended their 50 overs for 240, as Shikha Pandey wielded the long handle for 16 balls 31 with 6 fours. Shabnim Ismail was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa women with figures of 4/30.

Laura Wolvaardt smacked 59 in 88 balls, as Lee fell for 10 runs. Andrie Steyn made 30 in 53 balls with 5 fours. But the batswoman who led South Africa women to victory was Mignon du Preez, who remained unbeaten for 90 off 111 balls with 7 fours and she was supported by captain Dane van Niekerk, who scored 41* in 30 balls with 5 fours.

Shikha Pandey, Ekta Bisht, and Poonam Yadav picked a wicket each, but couldn’t stem the flow of runs. Pooja Vastrakar made her WODI debut for India in the match and gave 39 runs in 8 overs.
