Results summary of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018.

Indian domestic cricket’s premier One-Day competition, the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018 went underway on 5th February with all the domestic teams participating for the crown of One-Day champions. The teams are divided into four groups and top two teams from each of the groups will qualify for the QFs.

Here is the summary of matches on 7th Feb:

UTTAR PRADESH V MAHARASHTRA

Ankeet Bawane

Maharashtra batted first and put up a formidable 343/5 against UP. Ankeet Bawane hit 117* in 106 balls with 13 fours and 1 six; while Ruturaj Gaikwad (56) and NS Shaikh (69 in 47 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes) supported him well.

Though UP batsmen tried their best, they were never in the chase as Maharashtra bowlers continued to take wickets at crucial moments and never let any partnership develop. Mohd Saif hit 49 for UP. SM Kazi picked 3/38 for Maharashtra, with PC Dadhe, SS Bachav, and S Mundhe picking up 2 wickets each.

Maharashtra won the match by 105 runs.

UP 238 lost to MAH 343/5 by 105 runs


TRIPURA V DELHI

Nitish Rana

Tripura batted first and with BB Ghosh (84), Yashpal Singh (61), Gurinder Singh (54*) contributing, out up 298/7 in 50 overs. However, the Delhi batsmen chased down the total easily, losing just 3 wickets in the process.

Nitish Rana hit 94* in 60 balls with 5 sixes and 10 fours. Hiten Dalal (76), Unmukt Chand (55) and Rishabh Pant (56 in 28 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes) were the other major contributors to Delhi’s 7 wicket win, which came in just 39 overs.

ODISHA V RAILWAYS

Govinda Poddar

Railways batted first and Arindham Ghosh’s 48 and Anureet Singh’s 41 were the standout innings in their batting total of 212 runs. Abhishek Raut was the pick of the bowlers for Odisha with 3/45. The match ended up in a tight finish, as Odisha reached the target with just 2 wickets to spare and 3 overs to go.

Govinda Poddar hit 64 in 59 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes and Biplab Samantray making 38 runs. MR Chaudhary took 5/25 to keep Railways in the game, but couldn’t finish the match for them, as Abhishek Raut hit 27* to take Odisha to the win.

KARNATAKA V BARODA

Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal hit 109 in 90 balls with 14 fours and 2 sixes and R Samarth hit 77 runs, as Karnataka put up 312/9 on the board. RT Arothe picked 4/49 for Baroda.

Kedar Devdhar hit 48, Krunal Pandya hit 39 and A Sheth made 29, but Baroda was never in the chase. K Gowtham took 4/42 and Shreyas Gopal took 3/30 to give Karnataka a win by 58 runs by VJD method as the Baroda’s innings was curtailed to 37 overs due to rain.

BENGAL V KERALA

Jalaj Saxena

Kerala batted first and scored 235/6 with Jalaj Saxena hitting 100* in 133 balls with 10 fours. Manoj Tiwary with 2/23 was the most successful bowler for Bengal.

Tiwary also hit 73* in 92 balls and with contributions from others, took Bengal on the cusp of victory but couldn’t make the one run to win the match, as the match ended up in a tie. Warrier (2/38), Akshay KC (2/45) were the pick of the bowlers for Kerala.

HARYANA V PUNJAB

Shubham Rohilla

Punjab batted first and scored 247/9. Yuvraj Singh hit 43 and Gurkeerat Mann hit 42, while Manpreet Grewal hit 29 in 19 balls to prop up the Punjab total. However, the total proved to be too little, as Haryana batsmen chased it down successfully.

Shubham Rohilla hit 96 with 7 fours and 1 six, while CK Bishnoi hit 35 and HV Patel hit 18* in the end to ensure Haryana won the match by 2 wickets. Mayank Markande (2/37) and S Kaul (2/51) were the pick of bowlers for Punjab along with Manpreet Grewal and Barinder Sran.
