Ranji Trophy 2017/18: Abhimanyu Mithun, Karun Nair, Gautam Gambhir and Kunal Chandela shine on SF day-2

Ranji Trophy is down to its final four teams Delhi, Karnataka, Bengal and Vidarbha battling it out for a place in finals.

Let’s have a look at the Day 2 summary of Ranji Trophy Semi-finals stage.

SF 1- DELHI v BENGAL

Kunal Chandela

Sudip Chatterjee (83) and Writtick Chatterjee (47) were the heroes for Bengal in their first innings. Bengal batsmen got starts, but no one could transform the starts into a big score, as Bengal faltered to 286.

Navdeep Saini took 3/55 and Kulwant Khejroliya (2/64) and Manan Sharma (2/37) were the chief wicket takers for Delhi. The second new ball did wonders for Delhi, as captain Rishab Pant took full advantage of it and unleashed his fast bowlers on Delhi batsmen.

In reply, Delhi openers hit Bengal bowlers to all parts of the ground. Kunal Chandela hit 113 and Gautam Gambhir scored a brilliant hundred in 127, as they added 232 runs for the first wicket and have almost wiped out the lead with 7 wickets in hand.

BRIEF SCORES:

BENGAL 286 (S CHATTERJEE 83, W CHATTERJEE 47; NA SAINI 3/55) leads by
DELHI 271/3 (G GAMBHIR 127, K CHANDELA 113) 15 runs.


SF 2- VIDARBHA v KARNATAKA

Karun Nair hit 148

In the second semi-final between Vidarbha and Karnataka, Vidarbha batting lineup couldn’t stand the heat by Karnataka’s bowlers. Abhimanyu Mithun took 5/45, demolishing the middle order of Vidarbha batting. Vinay Kumar took 2/36 including the wickets of Faiz Fazal and AV Wadkar.

AA Sarvate was the only batsman to make some runs and hit 47, with Wasim Jaffer making 39 and took Vidarbha to 185.

Karnataka’s innings was led by Karun Nair, who made 148 after Vidarbha’s RN Gurbani took two top order wickets to reduce Karnataka to 21/3. CM Gautam (73) added 139 runs with Nair, before Gurbani dismissing Binny, Gopal and Gowtham for cheap.

Karnataka managed to end the day at 294/8, with RN Gurbannu taking 5/90 for Vidarbha.

BRIFF SCORES:

KARNATAKA 294/8 (K NAIR 148, C GAUTAM 73; RN GURBANI 5/90) leads VIDARBHA 185 (A SARVATE 47; A MITHUN 5/45) by 109 runs.
