CWC 2019: BalleBaazi Fantasy Team of the Tournament so far

With 23 matches completed in the tournament, it is an appropriate time for us to take a look at the BalleBaazi Fantasy Team of the World Cup so far.

As the tournament reaches its half-way stage, we take a look at the 11 players who have stood out in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup so far.

1. Aaron Finch:

Aaron Finch is the first name on our team. Not only because he opens the batting for our line-up. But because he has been one of the most valuable players in the tournament so far. Aaron Finch is currently the 2nd top run scorer in the tournament with 343 runs from 5 innings. He is a must-have for your fantasy sides.

2. Rohit Sharma:

The Hit-Man has inarguably been India’s top performer in the tournament so far. Rohit Sharma has 2 magnificent centuries to his name already in the World Cup and has looked explosive right from the get-go. Rohit also has the highest average in the tournament so far (159.5) having scored 319 runs from just 3 innings.

3. Joe Root:

England’s ever-reliable batting force has been in stunning form in this World Cup up till now. Root has already smacked 2 centuries in this tournament with 286 runs scored from 5 innings at an average of 95.3 Root is nailed on in our side at the No. 3 position.

4. Shakib al-Hasan:

The legendary Bangladesh all-rounder has been the Most Valuable Player in the tournament so far. Shakib is currently the tournament’s top run scorer with 384 runs scored from 4 innings at a mammoth average of 128. He has also scored 2 centuries and has single-handedly led Bangladesh to 5th position in the league table. Shakib has also picked up 5 wickets in the tournament so far thus underlining his overall value to the Bangladesh team.

5. Shai Hope:

Shai Hope has been the lone warrior for the West Indies in this World Cup. Though not as explosive as some of the others, Hope has displayed incredible consistency in this tournament so far and is a perfect candidate for the Number 5 spot in our team. The unconventional right-handed batsman has scored 186 runs from 4 innings at an average of 46.5 and is an excellent option for your BalleBaazi sides.

6. Jos Buttler:

England’s explosive wicket-keeper Jos Buttler is also the custodian behind the wickets for our BalleBaazi team of the tournament so far. Buttler, who is one of the most dangerous batsmen in the world, has scored 185 runs from just 3 innings at a remarkable average of 61.66 in this World Cup. He is the best possible candidate for the No. 6 slot in our team.

7. Andile Phehlukwayo:

It would not be a stretch to say that Andile Phehlukwayo has been the best South African player in the tournament so far. Phehlukwayo has chipped in for the Proteas with crucial runs down the order while picking up important wickets in the middle of the innings. He has chipped in with 83 runs in this World Cup while also picking up 6 wickets. He is an important budget option for the balance of our side.

8. Jofra Archer:

Jofra Archer is currently the 4th highest wicket-taker in this tournament with 9 wickets from 4 innings so far. Archer, who has been England’s standout bowler, has several weapons in his armoury that make an important cog in our wheel – a venomous Yorker, a vicious short-ball and a well-disguised slower ball. Snap him up for your side!

9. Mitchell Starc:

The joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament finds his place in our team at the No. 8 slot. Mitchell Starc has been phenomenal for the Australians in this tournament so far. He has picked up 13 wickets from 5 innings at a meagre bowling average of 115. Apart from his numbers, Starc has delivered for the Aussies when it’s mattered the most. He has broken up important partnerships at crucial times by picking up wickets at regular intervals. Starc is nailed on in our side.

10. Mohammad Amir:

Mohammad Amir has been Pakistan’s lone shining star in an otherwise dismal World Cup campaign. Amir, along with Starc, is the joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament so far with 13 scalps from 4 innings at an average of 13.07. Amir has the unique knack of picking up wickets at the beginning of the wickets as well as the end of the innings. He is an exceptional cricketer and hence finds a place in our XI.

11. Imran Tahir:

The lone spinner’s role in our team has been taken up by South Africa’s leg-spinning maestro Imran Tahir. Tahir is the leading wicket-taker amongst all the spinners in this tournament with 8 wickets from 4 innings at an average of 25.62. The 40-year old leggie takes up the final spot in our BalleBaazi Fantasy team of the tournament so far.
