SA v ENG 2020: 4th Test- England routs South Africa by 191 runs; win series 3-1

Mark Wood picks nine wickets and was named Player of the Match.

Rassie van der Dussen | GettySouth Africa couldn’t give the perfect farewell to one of their greatest workhorses Vernon Philander, who played his last Test match ever, in what was a 191-run defeat at the hands of a rampant England team.

Starting their chase of 466 runs, Malan (22) and Elgar (24) added 39 runs for the first wicket and after that, it was a procession of batsmen getting set scoring decent runs and then getting out. Faf made 35, De Kock made 39, and Bavuma scored 27 and all of them batted around Rassie van der Dussen, who scored a stoic 98 in 199 balls with 15 fours and 2 sixes.

Proteas only managed 274 in 77.1 overs as Mark Wood added 4/54 to his first innings fifer and ended up with 9 wickets. Broad (2/26) and Stokes (2/47) helped Wood well, as England won by 191 runs and pocketed series 3-1.

Mark Wood was named the Man of the Match, while Ben Stokes got the Player of the Series award. With this win, England moved up to the third spot in ICC Test Championship rankings with 146 points to their name from 9 Test matches.
