South African pace sensation Kagiso Rabada has been banned for one match after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel during the opening day of the ongoing third Test against England in Port Elizabeth on Thursday (January 16).

Rabada has been fined 15% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council and has also received one demerit point after the bowler breached the Article 2.5 of the code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his or her dismissal during an international match.”

He has been leveled the charges for his angry celebration just in front of Joe Root after dismissing the England Test captain on Thursday by the on-field umpires Rod Tucker and Bruce Oxenford and third umpire Joel Wilson as well as fourth umpire Allahudien Paleker.

Meanwhile, Rabada admitted the offense and accepted the sanction after Thursday’s play but former England captain Michael Vaughan wasn’t really pleased with the decision.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Vaughan has slammed the verdict and called it ‘bonkers’ while taking a dig at the judgment by saying the slow over rates are not punished but a celebration of a wicket is given such harsh treatment.

He said in a tweet, “Rabada getting a 1 game ban for celebrating taking the Wicket of the opponents best player is absolutely bonkers ... Over rates & slow play, nothing gets done ... Celebrate a wicked and you are banned ... The World is bloody nuts ... #SAvENG”

Noteworthy, following the latest development, Rabada has now accumulated four demerit points in a 24 month period which meant he will miss the final and fourth Test against England on January 24.
