England wicketkeeper Jos Buttler called retiring Proteas seamer Vernon Philander a 'f***ing k***head' during the fifth day of the second Test in Cape Town on Tuesday (January 7).

Philander, who was battling to save the hosts from a defeat, had frustrated England with a valiant 51-ball 8 runs. Upset with his side being kept waiting for the win, Buttler hurled abuses at Philander when the South African cricketer blocked the former’s view from an incoming throw.

The incident happened in the final session of the last day with both sides sharing some nervy moments.

The English stumper repeated the “F” cuss word several times and asked Philander to “f*****g move, get past that f*****g gut” as the latter stared at him.

Vernon Philander failed to secure the draw for South Africa as England eventually beat the home team by 189 runs with 8 overs remaining in the final day.

The four-match Test series now stands at 1-1. Port Elizabeth (January 16-20) and Johannesburg (January 24-28) will host the third and fourth Tests respectively.
