AUS v NZ 2019-20: Josh Hazlewood ruled out of Perth Test with hamstring strain

Hazlewood could manage just eight balls in the first innings on Day 2.

Hazlewood left the field immediately | GettyAustralia pacer Josh Hazlewood won't be bowling again in Perth during the ongoing first Test against New Zealand after suffering hamstring strain. Hazlewood pulled out of his ninth delivery in the first innings on Day 2 and left the field immediately not to return thereafter.

It was later confirmed by the team management in a report on cricket.com.au that Hazlewood has been ruled out of the Test match and his recovery will be monitored in the coming weeks.

Former skipper Ricky Ponting, however, feared the right-arm fast bowler's summer is most likely over.

"Looking at that I reckon it could be his summer over," Ponting said. "Just looking at his reaction you could tell he thinks it’s quite a serious one."

"The three New Zealand Test matches aren’t that far apart so we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope it’s not too serious. It’s a huge blow in the game for the Aussies," he added.

Like the Aussies, New Zealand too lost one of its pacers Lockie Ferguson this Test due to injury.

Hazlewood had only earlier this year returned from a shoulder injury that had kept him out of the World Cup in UK. He played a crucial role in helping Australia retain the Ashes and then whitewashing Pakistan 2-0 at the start of the home season.
