Australian spin legend Shane Warne was all in awe of David Warner after his epic innings in the ongoing second and final Test – a Day-Night contest against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval.

Warner, the destructive opener, hammered a record-breaking unbeaten 335 off 418 balls against Pakistan on Day 2 of the final Test in Adelaide on November 30 (Saturday).

During his master-class with the willow, Warner broke Sir Don Bradman’s 88-year-old record (299* in 1931-32) for the highest score at the Adelaide Oval.

The left-hander also surpassed Don Bradman and Mark Taylor’s 334-run mark to become the second-highest individual Test scorer for Australia after Matthew Hayden’s 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003.

Following his incredible innings, Warne paid tribute to the swashbuckling Warner, saying this is a special moment for the Warner family, and friends who supported him during his tough time.

In his first Test series after the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, Warner failed to counter Stuart Broad in the Ashes 2019 and he came under the pressure after his poor campaign in England. The legendary spinner understands how difficult it is to come back and play such a knock.

As per Fox Sports, Warne said during commentary: “You could see how much it meant to David Warner. The extra jump, the extra run. That meant a lot. Think of everything he’s been through, back to back 100s, he’s just made 300 – the highest ever score made on the Adelaide Oval.”

The cricket expert continued, “His heart pounding, adrenaline pumping. It’s a special moment for his wife Candice, his family, his friends, everyone who has supported him through a tough time.

People don’t realise how much heartache (there is) when you’re going through a tough trot and a bad time – on or off field. To come back and do something special like that, you can’t control your emotions like that. The moment gets the better of you.”

Warne signed off, “That boundary suddenly, he realises he has just made 300 at the Adelaide Oval. It’s terrific stuff and great to watch. It’s satisfaction for yourself, hanging in there, doing the tough yards, to keep training, to keep yourself fit, keep the hunger, the desire, the passion.”

Noteworthy, Warner could have broken the highest-ever individual Test score of 400* by Brian Lara but Australia captain Tim Paine decided to declare the innings at 589 for 3 against Pakistan.
