Steve Smith's legendary Ashes came to the end on Sunday (September 15) as he got out caught on 23 in the second innings of the fifth and final Ashes Test at The Oval.

The former skipper, who redeemed himself on comeback to Test cricket after serving 12-month ban following his involvement in last year's ball-tampering incident, astonishingly struck 774 runs at an average of 110.57, including three hundreds with a best of 211 this series.

Even though Australia ended with a 2-2 scoreline and will have to wait for four more years to try and finally win a Test series in UK since 2001, Smith contributed majorly in ensuring his country retains the Ashes urn.

Hence, when the 30-year-old walked off the field after getting out, he did with the huge crowd giving him a great round of applause while standing on their feet. And, taking note of the same, famous journalist Piers Morgan quite aptly tweeted: "The bat, it transpires, is mightier than the sandpaper".
