The inaugural edition of ICC World Test Championship started with the Ashes series and former England spinner Monty Panesar has already predicted the possible winner of the championship.

While Test Championship is underway and the teams are fighting to make it to the final to be played on June 10, 2021, at Lord’s, Panesar has recently predicted that Australia might win the inaugural Test Championship given their current incredible resources in the five-day format.

Panesar believes that Tim Paine-led Aussies’ current stunning form in Test cricket and the way they are dominating England in their den makes them the favourites for the Test Championship.

In an interview with Times of India, Panesar said: “Australia. The way they are playing and dominating, I am sure they will win the championship.”

At the moment, Virat Kohli-led India is leading the points table with 120 points while New Zealand and Sri Lanka are the second and third placed side on the table with 60 points each.

Meanwhile, Australia is currently on the fourth place in the chart with 56 points after winning two matches in the ongoing Ashes 2019 and they would certainly like to gain more points by winning the final Test at The Oval, while England is also in the race with 32 points.

Noteworthy, the fifth Ashes Test started on Thursday. England were bowled out for 294 after Australia opted to bowl first.
