Steve Smith has had an amazing rise in Test cricket as a batsman. His performances have been breathtaking especially after his comeback to the longest format after the sandpaper gate. He is now just 159 runs away from becoming the highest run-getter from four matches in a series.

The two cricketers who currently top the charts for getting the most runs in a four-match series are legends Sir Vivian Richards and Sunil Gavaskar. The Indian scored 774 runs against West Indies in 1970/71 which was eclipsed by the West Indian great who scored 829 runs just four years later.

Smith has now scored 671 runs in just three matches, with his scores reading 144, 142, 92, 211 and 82. In the list of most runs after three matches of a series, only Graham Gooch (752 v India) and Brian Lara (688 v Sri Lanka) have scored more than what Smith has scored so far.

Going by the way Smith is breaking records and scoring runs with ease, he may even break the long-standing Ashes record of most runs in a series currently held by Sir Donald Bradman who got 974 runs in 1930. Well, Steve Smith is just 304 runs away from breaking the record!
